>> hello from boston. so far no group or individual has claimed responsibility in the attack as the investigation continues. here on the streets of boston residents are trying to get lives back to normal with a lot of security watching by. line eerilyw finished ligh empty. debris still scattered all around. runner rebecca says she did just finished when she heard the bombs explode. appeared timed for maximum impact. the race atnishing this time. the first blast rocked the sidewalk along the course, spewing shrapnel and rocking this runner to the ground. to g."

>> there was a blast right next to me unbuckled my legs. i knew i was going down. >> 12 seconds later, a second explosion. this doctor was standing just 20 feet from the glass and rushed over to help the injured. investigators are frantically searching to find out who is behind the bombings. the fbi is now in charge of the probe. >> our mission is clear come to .ring to justice president obama spoke again this morning. >> if you want to know who we are, what america is, how we respond to evil, that is it. selflessly, compassionately, unafraid. >> authorities spent the night at a residence near the airport. they questioned a young saudi student considered a person of interest.

clearly we are at the beginning of the investigation. it will take time to follow every lead and determine what happened. but we will find out. ourill find whoever harmed citizens, and we would bring them to justice. we also know this, the american to be refuse terrorized. the aftermath of the explosions there were stories of terrorism, kindness, generosity, and love. there were runners who kept running to the nearest hospital to give blood and those who stayed to 10 to the wounded, some tearing off their own clothes to make tourniquets. the first responders who ran into the chaos to save lives. the men and women who are still treating the wounded at some of the best hospitals in the world and the students who hurried to help save when we heard, we all came in. the priests who opened the

churches and the ministers who ministered to the hurt and healing. so if you want to know who we are, what america is, how we respond to evil, that is it. thetern words from president on this solemn day after the bombings in boston. we will continue to learn new details, and as we do so, authorities throughout the boston area are helping people to help out by sending in videos and in the photographs they may have taken from the crime scene. we are a lot -- live in the newsroom. foruthorities are asking the public's help at this hour. authorities also confirming the only devices they found in that scene where the two that exploded near the finish line of the boston marathon.

a just a tremendous explosion. sound like a bomb went off right next to me. it just hit my whole body. my legs started giving out. >> overnight officials searched the apartment in massachusetts. investigators continue to come through the debris and evidence throughout the 12 blocks. >> assistance from the public remains critical. >> certainly they are asking for video, photographs of anyone who might have been in the area before, during, and after this happened. doctors at this hour reporting they had to pull shrapnel from a number of the victims currently being treated. authorities credit in the first responders and others that rushed to the scene, saying that they save lives. >> thank you very much. we encourage you to stay with us throughout the very busy news day. abc 7 news will have continuing coverage of the boston marathon

bombings and subsequent investigation. be sure to tune into abc 7 news at 5:00. also coming up later, john gonzalez live in northwest washington with they are preparing for the emancipation -- emancipation day parade. certainly stepped up security there in light of what has happened. he will have a live report. changing gears, we want ago to the reporter live in arlington were there has been a two-alarm fire at a house. at one. people were trapped and has been transported with injuries. this is a pretty serious buyer. the back end is pretty much got it. the lady is very emotional as she speaks with fire members about what happened. the firefighters down the street are still trying to put out some of the hot spots in this fire. three people were taken to the

hospital, two of them taken to washington hospital center because they suffered burn and write -- respiratory injuries. the third was taken to va hospital center. one of the victims was rescued from the basement. we found her, talk to her. she said it was because of the explosion she heard that made her realize there was a fire. hear explosions coming from upstairs. then i saw the smoke through my door. togetherst got myself and call 911. i just waited for the firefighters to come get me. for pretty tough ordeal this young woman. i have to tell you the fire marshal is on the scene tried to figure out what sparked the fire. he will be here for quite some time. an extra note about traffic here on the highway. it will be backed up for quite some time. back to you. >> the marshall just got there.

back, everyone. d.c.'s annual emancipation day parade will go on as scheduled. preparation began very early this morning on the final day. extra police officers are on hand to patrol the area. frome joined live now washington. he is downtown along the parade route. what we know at this point?

steve bell at this hour the sights and sounds of the downtown parade trying to raise the images in the head of violent crime just 24 hours ago. police are on the scene and a lot of them. >> we are having technical problems. we can tell you the parade is going on as planned. there was questions whether the event would go on. the mayor and city officials telling us they did not want to cancel this and wanted to go on as planned because it is a very important holiday in the district.

it marks when the slaves were freed by a bill signed by abraham lincoln. we spoke with reverend al sharpton earlier and talk about how what happened yesterday in boston broke our hearts, but not our spirits. and it is important to move on with this parade today to eliminate the fears of yesterday and really celebrate the fears that were conquered when this emancipation day parade started in the district. a very popular parade. there will be a concert later today. it will all be capped off by a fireworks show. the police chief made it very clear for residents that the police presence would be very visible today throughout the day. she has made sure to have enough police presence not only along the parade route, but along the city. we of notice not only the police activity but also a electronic

signs posted throughout the city, morning commuters, urging them to notify law enforcement if they notice any suspicious activity this afternoon. so the parade goes on. the mayor making sure that there is a lot of police presence as many tried to ease nerves from the bombings of yesterday in boston. we're all familiar with terrorist threats here in the d.c. area. they enacted a readiness plan very quickly yesterday. the mayor held a press conference, making sure everything went on as scheduled today, but a lot of police presence. i know ever since may your williams instituted that back in 2005 it has been a staple of the hallmark here in the area for people to come out and celebrate and respect the important day. at the same time, we hired -- we

we expect tols say see smaller crowds. at this point we expect smaller crowds? he really did not see the police presence here in washington, d.c. it is a very covert strategy at times. the you think there's a lot we do not know going on? >> the city officials, including the mayor, made it very clear you will see police. there will also be activity going on that we do not see. the pentagon yesterday made it very clear they would have extra police presence inside and outside of the facility. we are a block away from the white house where the parade route is ending this afternoon. police have armed officers closing off the bench -- pennsylvania avenue to pedestrians. it remains that way today.

more policey have presence. we see them. there is also stuff going on behind the scenes that we are not seeing again. the mayor has said the city is as ready as it is going to be today. >> an opportunity to show resilience in the face of terror expacts. switching gears to talk about the weather. obviously people are heading out to the parade. at the same time, leave the umbrellas home for the most part. not necessarily going to be true all week. also, when we get the sunshine, enjoy it. cloudiness sticking around all week long. any peaks of sunshine are welcome. a few spots we were able to see the sunshine this morning. i have a time lapse for you. and this is from arlington,

virginia. look at that. the sun came up with the big ball of fire. the lower clouds pushed into the early afternoon hours. now take a look in maryland. look at that. that is blue skies starting to pop on out of there. 66 degrees. a comfortable temperature at the noon hour. winds are coming in and out of the south now. that means temperatures will be allowed to warm up, even if we stay under the cloudiness. take a look at the other whether but temperatures. but does the 64 degrees. 65 degrees in colombia. 64 degrees. how high we go will be dependent on just how much sunshine we get in here. i know it is not the prettiest looking map you have ever seen,

but it does a great job showing the clear skies and cloudiness. here we see the park it -- pockets in northern virginia and western maryland. trying to squeeze them in your around manassas. this is working its way in. what is fighting the high- pressure is we have a cold front approaching from the west. that will start to push in more clouds. this will likely squeeze out a chance of showers. what about showers today? i think the chances are very minimal. maybe a stray showers to our north. only putting it at a 20 percent chance. we be umbrellas at home. -- leave the umbrellas at home. here comes the cold front. this is trying to squeeze out a little bit of rain. the best opportunity of showers tomorrow will be after the noon hour. most of that will stay to the north. we will see a stronger storms, and on friday.
